Description

The Morkie is a crossbreed between a Maltese and a Yorkshire Terrier. Bred mostly to be a lap dog this breed makes a wonderful companion pet. They are known to participate in agility events yet will follow their owners around with loyal devotion. They are a much beloved designer dog with a very small bone structure and can look like either parent dog. They tend to be "needy" and require company and can suffer from separation anxiety if left alone often and for too long. Colors can resemble a Yorkie - black, tan and brown or like the Maltese - cream or white.

Additional Information

The Morkie is extremely loyal, affectionate, clever and friendly. They love to play and they are great with children. They also tend to be wary of strangers. Though small in stature, they are active and will need regular exercise and mental stimulation.

Health Awareness

The health concerns of both the Yorkshire Terrier and the Maltese come into play here. They are: tracheal collapse4, cataracts, medial patellar luxation, hydrocephalus, chronic valvular heart disease and glaucoma. If an owner is concerned with certain health problems, please research the dog's parentage. When provided good health care, the life span can be 14-16 years.
